Indonesia’s race to net zero

In 2021, the Indonesian government announced a goal to achieve net zero emissions by 2060 at the latest. Solar energy plays a pivotal role in this goal. However, PV deployment has fallen short of decarbonization requirements. Indonesia has vast solar generation capacity potential, and solar is expected to be the main electricity source in a net-zero economy model. The article highlights challenges and successes in solar deployment in Indonesia, including policy and regulatory uncertainties, progress in solar installations, and strategies to transition from coal to clean energy.
