German research institute ISC Konstanz achieves a power conversion efficiency of 24.12% for a TOPCon back contact (TBC) solar cell. The IBC4EU solar cell was designed following the polyZEBRA concept. The result was confirmed by Germany's Institute for Solar Energy Research Hamelin. ISC Konstanz researcher Jonathan Linke mentioned that the certified efficiency of 24.12% surpasses the in-house measurement of 24.0%. The solar cell has an open-circuit voltage of 709.5 mV, a short circuit density of 11,355 mA, and a fill factor of 82.04%. The polyZEBRA cell fabrication process utilizes a unique laser-based method for passivating contacts on both polarities and is suitable for mass production. The ISC team is focused on further increasing efficiencies and reducing costs of a future production line planned in 2025, funded by the European Union’s Horizon Europe research and innovation program.
