Italy bans PV from agricultural land

The Italian government has issued a decree prohibiting the installation of large-scale solar plants on productive agricultural land to prevent the potential desertification of these areas. Minister of Agriculture Francesco Lollobrigida emphasized that energy production must not compromise agricultural productivity. Exceptions include agrivoltaic systems and areas like quarries and industrial sites. The decree has faced criticism from the local PV sector but is supported by the agricultural association Coldiretti.
