Italy bans solar on agricultural land

The Italian government has banned solar PV installations on agricultural land to preserve productive land. The ban aims to prevent the wild installation of ground-mounted photovoltaics. This decision has drawn criticism from the Italian solar sector, as it is estimated to cost Italy billions in lost investment and tax revenues. Italia Solare, the solar industry trade body, believes that achieving solar deployment targets by 2030 is achievable without significant damage to agriculture. The government confirmed that ongoing projects will be exempt from the ban.
