Italy: Extensive restrictions planned for solar parks on agricultural land

The Italian government has presented new regulations for solar parks on agricultural land, allowing only ground-mounted PV systems that can still be used for agricultural purposes. Minister of Agriculture Francesco Lollobrigida emphasized the importance of compatibility between energy production and agricultural production. Projects already in the approval phase are exempt from the new regulations, and specific areas like quarries and industrial plants are still permissible for PV systems. Criticism from Italia Solare stated that restrictions on photovoltaic installations on agricultural land are unnecessary, advocating for the coexistence of agriculture and PV installations.
