LEAG, an energy company, has secured EUR 45 million in EU funding to develop a 40-MW hydrogen production and storage complex near a coal-fired power plant in Germany's mining region Lusatia. The funding was provided through the EU's Just Transition Fund. The project includes an electrolysis plant, hydrogen and thermal storage facilities in Jaenschwalde. LEAG is also planning to deploy 7 GW of renewables by 2030 and 14 GW by 2040, along with hydrogen-ready power plants for a reliable supply of green electricity.
