Lightweighting vehicle-integrated photovoltaic modules

Research groups in Europe are exploring the integration of solar cells into various parts of electric vehicles to extend their driving range. A European research team, led by Bin Luo, has made progress in developing lightweight PV modules with high reliability through interconnection and encapsulation strategies. They identified carbon-fiber reinforced plastics as promising materials. Testing revealed failures and led to the enhancement of module designs for improved damp heat and mechanical impact resilience.
