The UK Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero has approved National Grid’s application to reinforce the electricity transmission network between Bramford substation in Suffolk and Twinstead Tee in Essex, England. The Bramford to Twinstead Reinforcement is part of The Great Grid Upgrade and aims to address an existing constraint on the network to transfer cleaner, greener energy from generation to consumption. This project includes removing existing overhead lines, replacing them with a mix of new overhead lines and underground cables, and constructing supporting infrastructure. The estimated cost of completion is around £700m.
