National Grid project aims to ease bottlenecks

National Grid is collaborating with Smart Wires to utilize advanced power flow controllers like SmartValve to enhance grid efficiency and increase clean energy distribution. A Network Innovation Allowance-funded project focuses on developing tools for better placement and operation of these technologies, with notable installations at various substations in northern England. The initiative also aims to address network constraints and improve electricity flow, potentially saving around £390m and unlocking additional north-south power flow capacity.
