NEM 3.0 driving more residential BESS and less PV in California

The new net metering scheme in California has led to a boost in residential battery installations but a drop in the rate of solar adoption. Data from the US Energy Information Administration (EIA) shows that 9% of eligible residential solar systems in California are now paired with a battery energy storage system (BESS). The variable compensation rate introduced by the net metering changes incentivized residential BESS as it allows selling power back to the grid when it is most valuable.
