A group of researchers from Griffith University in Australia developed a new method to evaluate the levelized cost of hydrogen (LCOH) by considering overload capacity and power-dependent efficiency of the electrolyzer as crucial parameters. The study focused on Alkaline (ALK) and PEM technologies for electrolysis and was applied to different regions designated as hydrogen hubs in Australia. The research aims to achieve a target cost of AUD 2-3 per kilogram set by Australia's National Hydrogen Roadmap. The findings underscore the potential of Australia in renewable hydrogen production but emphasize the need for significant scale-up to stay competitive in the industry.
