Researchers at Khalifa University in the United Arab Emirates have developed a novel space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM) technique for controlling the switches in photovoltaic inverters in order to reduce switching losses and common-mode voltage (CMV). The technique aims to minimize CMV-related issues such as bearing failure, electromagnetic interference (EMI) noises, ground leakage current, and motor bearing failure. The method includes additional voltage vectors to reduce the maximum peak value of CMV and dv/dt, leading to lower losses and simplified duty cycle computation.
