Scientists from Spain and Germany have developed a method for recovering metal contacts from end-of-life solar cells, optimizing the demetallization process using a potassium hydroxide solution. The recovered silicon was then recrystallized to meet the standards for manufacturing new solar cells. The results show that the quality of silicon can be preserved through the recovery process, enabling its reuse in the solar panel supply chain, thereby offering an effective recycling strategy.
