Solar plants and rooftops in the Northeast, Great Lakes, and Midwest regions received above-average irradiation in May, with some areas such as Illinois, Ontario, and New York receiving significantly more than the average. New York set a record on May 18th by meeting 20% of its power demand from solar power. The high irradiance in New York during May was attributed to a unique weather pattern characterized by high pressure over North America. In contrast, areas in southern and western North America, including Mexico, experienced irradiation levels close to or below normal due to cloud coverage.
