Scientists at Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands have developed a new methodology for designing off-grid residential PV–battery–electrolyzer–fuel cell systems for long-term energy storage using hydrogen. The system aims to provide energy in rural areas with limited access to transmission networks. The approach involves using hydrogen for seasonal demand, with surplus solar power in summer used to produce hydrogen for electricity production via fuel cells in winter.
