Origin Energy has submitted an environmental report to the Australian federal government for a new 500 MW/2,000 MWh BESS to be built near Kogan, about 40 km west of Dalby, Queensland. The BESS will use lithium-ion technology with up to four hours of storage capacity. It will connect to the grid via a 275 kV transmission line and increase Queensland's system strength and storage assets. The battery will be the biggest in Queensland and will be able to dispatch at times of peak demand.
