The government of New South Wales has approved a project to add 1 GW of electrolyser capacity to produce green hydrogen in Australia. The project, led by Origin Energy Ltd and Orica Ltd, will begin with a 55 MW phase costing AUD 207.6 million. The Hunter Valley Hydrogen Hub will deliver 55 MW by 2026, scaling up to 1 GW by 2036. The project will be located near Orica's ammonia manufacturing facility, with most output going to offset greenhouse gas emissions. Additional volumes will be sold to the transportation industry.
