Two solar projects in Cajamarca and Moquegua, Peru, were connected to the National Interconnected Electric System (SEIN) in the first half of 2024, totaling 115.55 MW. Investment fund Actis acquired the project from Enel Generación Perú and Compañía Energética Veracruz for $1.3 billion in May. The 97 MW Matarani plant in Arequipa is expected to begin operations this year, located in the Mollendo Desert, one of the highest solar radiation areas in the world. Peru now has around 400 MW of operational solar capacity.
