Researchers from the University of Cambridge have developed a reactor powered by photovoltaic energy to convert CO2 and water into synthesis gases for industrial applications. The system uses a photoelectrochemical device with a special photocathode and anode to convert CO2 into syngas. It also converts waste plastic-derived ethylene glycol into glycolic acid. The process operates with a single visible-light absorber, enabling waste plastic upcycling.
