Queensland designates battery-backed ‘Local REZ,’ approves local network energy storage

With 1/3 of all homes in Queensland hosting solar arrays, the state has Australia's highest uptake of residential rooftop solar. The Queensland government announced that Caloundra will host a Local Renewable Energy Zone (LREZ) to triple rooftop solar PV generation. The pilot project includes deployment of up to 8.4MW/18.8MWh of battery energy storage systems, additional solar PV, and demand management. Energy Queensland will support the project to put Sunshine Coast rooftops at the center of the renewable energy transition.
