A group of Spanish researchers developed two novel methodologies for the detection of abnormal photovoltaic systems' operation based on minimal data requirements. The first identifies sudden efficiency losses in the short term, while the second monitors a plant's degradation. The methodologies use supervised machine learning techniques with minimal input variables for facilities with limited data availability. The scientists implemented the recursive least squares (RLS) algorithm for anomaly detection, relying on radiation data and irradiance components from the Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service.
