A research group led by Spain’s Valencia Polytechnic University has developed a novel single-parameter power forecasting method for residential PV installations. The method focuses on interval prediction data instead of absolute figures, acknowledging the natural variability in solar PV power generation. By selecting similar days in the past based on direct radiation, the method establishes prediction intervals using a quantile-based approach. The system was trained and tested using a case study in Spain, achieving a mean absolute error (MAE) of 0.1490 kW. The research group emphasized the importance of user-friendly forecasting methods for residential users.
