Rio Tinto building more solar at mining sites

Rio Tinto has completed a 3.5 MW solar power plant in Canada’s Northwest Territories at the Diavik Diamond Mine. They opted for bi-facial modules to exploit albedo from snow. The plant will provide up to 25% of the mine's electricity needs during closure. Additional 5.25 MW solar farms are planned in Australia at the Grov Peninsula bauxite mine by 2025 with Aggreko as the contractor.
