The drafted changes to the Law on Energy in Serbia aim to facilitate decarbonization for businesses by introducing tools like the active buyer status and power purchase agreements. Representatives from the Ministry of Mining and Energy, Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS), Elektrodistribucija Srbije (EDS), Elektromreža Srbije (EMS), and KPMG Serbia presented these novelties at a conference organized by the American Chamber of Commerce in Serbia. These changes allow firms to participate in the energy market, install renewable energy sources, and engage in PPAs to prepare for the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism and CO2 taxation in the European Union. Discussions on carbon pricing and market participation are ongoing to support independent decarbonization efforts.
