Setting up Great British Energy is among Labour’s promised first steps

UK Labour Party leader Keir Starmer presented in Scotland today the Labour’s six “first steps for change,” including the creation of Great British Energy, a publicly-owned clean power company headquartered in Scotland. Commenting on the announcement, coming ahead of the UK general election on July 4, RenewableUK CEO Dan McGrail expressed support for Great British Energy and its potential to support innovative technologies like tidal power, floating wind, onshore wind, and solar energy through Labour's Local Power Plan. The goal of Great British Energy is to reduce energy bills and enhance energy security through a windfall tax on oil and gas giants. Starmer highlighted the company's focus on investing in floating offshore wind.
