Share of coal power in Greece tumbles to zero

Greece is moving away from coal power with natural gas plants and renewables becoming more competitive due to high emissions costs. Lignite has a minimal share of only 2%. The recent surge in carbon dioxide allowances has made lignite unprofitable, with renewables and gas being preferred, especially on low-demand days. The country plans to phase out coal by 2028.
