Slovenia’s coal plant TEŠ could close already within three years

Slovenian Prime Minister Robert Golob has suggested that Slovenia's only coal plant TEŠ and the Premogovnik Velenje mine might shut down earlier than planned in 2033 due to economic reasons, not politics or climate concerns. The state-owned company HSE is facing financial losses and is considering spinning off TEŠ and the mine. The potential early closure is based on economic factors, including the cost of greenhouse gas emissions and strict environmental regulations. Additionally, EU strategies towards cleaner energy and financial aids for transitions are discussed.
