Researchers from Spain's Andalusian Association for Research and Industrial Cooperation (AICIA) investigated the potential usage of photovoltaic-thermal (PVT) energy for beer brewing in microbreweries. They used PV systems to preheat brewing water and generate electricity. Computational simulations were conducted using TRNSYS software, focusing on a Spanish microbrewery in Jerez de la Frontera. The study analyzed different PV and PVT system sizes and configurations, along with their electricity and thermal production percentages. The research highlighted the cost-effectiveness of PVT systems in small-scale brewing processes.
