SSE, Gilkes form Scottish pumped storage JV

SSE and Gilkes Energy plan to co-develop the Fearna Pumped Storage Hydro project at Loch Fearna in Scotland's Great Glen. The project aims to enhance SSE's existing fleet by providing large-scale, long-duration electricity storage. The proposed 1.8GW project includes tunnels and a power station connecting Loch Quoich and Loch Fearna. Gilkes Energy will lead project development, with pre-consent activities underway. Ross Turbet and Carl Crompton expressed enthusiasm for the project and the potential it holds for energy security and renewable energy balancing in the UK.
