The Hydrogen Stream: Norway to make world’s biggest hydrogen ships

Norwegian Ship Design and Torghatten Nord are collaborating to build the world’s largest hydrogen-powered ferries, featuring dual hydrogen-electric and diesel-electric propulsion. Additionally, various Nordic companies are aiming to upscale hydrogen production for European export, with plans to develop state-of-the-art facilities. The European Commission is refining auction terms for renewable hydrogen to increase production efficiency and accessibility. Meanwhile, advancements in bipolar plate manufacturing by Fraunhofer IWU could enhance fuel cell efficiency, supporting wider adoption of hydrogen technologies.
