UK National Energy System Operator appoints chair

Dr. Paul Golby has been appointed as the inaugural chair of the National Energy System Operator (NESO) in the UK, set to transition from the ESO this summer. With a diverse background including roles at the National Air Traffic Service and E.ON UK, and expertise from the Royal Academy of Engineering, Golby will lead NESO to address critical challenges in decarbonizing the UK’s energy system while ensuring secure and affordable energy supply. NESO will operate independently under government ownership, with regulatory oversight from Ofgem.
