UK regulator approves 2 GW subsea cable connecting renewable energy hubs

The United Kingdom’s largest subsea cable, Eastern Green Link 2 (EGL2), has been approved by Ofgem, the country's energy regulator. EGL2 is a 525 kV 2 GW subsea connection between Peterhead in Scotland and Drax in England. It is a vital infrastructure to alleviate transmission network bottlenecks and support renewable energy resources. The project will be operated by National Grid ESO and SSEN Transmission, with a total expected investment of around GBP 4.3 billion ($5.5 billion).
