US government proposes 10 ‘national interest’ transmission corridors

The US Department of Energy (DoE) has proposed 10 National Interest Electric Transmission Corridors (NIETC) to address transmission capacity constraints and congestion, unlocking federal financing and permitting tools. The NIETC designation could benefit various regions and sectors, including Native American tribes, offshore wind interconnection, and public-private partnerships for transmission projects. The DoE's preliminary findings highlight the importance of interregional transmission to meet future energy demands in the US and facilitate the development of a cleaner grid.
