German carmaker Volkswagen AG is entering the large-scale stationary storage systems market with its Elli charging and energy brand, planning projects with a capacity of up to 350 MW and 700 MWh. Elli aims to collaborate on developing, constructing, and managing significant battery systems. The first project may start in Germany by 2025. Volkswagen views a promising future in the European industrial battery market, poised for substantial growth. Experts foresee a 100-fold surge in storage demand in Germany, requiring over 100 GWh of battery systems by 2030. Elli's CEO Giovanni Palazzo sees a lucrative opportunity in expanding Elli as a comprehensive energy supplier in Europe. Elli originated in 2018 to provide EV charging solutions and sustainable energy sources for European consumers and businesses. The article was featured in Renewables Now newsletter.
