‘World’s largest’ 30MW flywheel energy storage project connects to grid in China

The largest flywheel energy storage system in the world, the Dinglun Flywheel Energy Storage Power Station in Changzhi City, Shanxi Province, China, has been connected to the grid by project owner Shenzen Energy Group. Other projects include systems in New York and Pennsylvania in the US, owned by Convergent Energy + Power, and a grid-scale project in the Netherlands by S4 Energy. Flywheels are being deployed in combination with lithium-ion battery energy storage system technology in various projects.
