AMEA Power, a UAE-based renewables developer, has started construction on a 120MW solar PV project in Tunisia, named the Kairouan Solar PV plant. The project is expected to be commissioned in Q4 2025. AMEA Power secured financing through IFC and AfDB. The company obtained the project construction via an international tender programme led by Tunisia’s Ministry of Industry and SMEs. They have signed a power purchase agreement with STEG. The project aims to support Tunisia's goal of achieving 35% renewable energy by 2030. Hussain Al Nowais, the chairman of AMEA Power, highlighted the potential of Tunisia in renewable energy and trade. North Africa and the Middle East are aiming to become major green energy hubs, with discussions on connecting North Africa with Europe. AMEA Power has a significant renewable energy project pipeline across multiple countries.
