The energy transition in the Western Balkans is progressing with the cancellation of the Tuzla 7 coal project in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The region still heavily relies on fossil fuels for heating, leading to air pollution and high energy bills. Despite some communities transitioning to renewable energy sources like geothermal energy and heat pumps, many face funding challenges. International financiers are urged not to fund district heating projects running on fossil fuels.
