European inverter industry under pressure – IPCEI initiative

The European solar industry launched an IPCEI for solar inverters at Intersolar Europe 2024 in Munich. The IPCEI aims to strengthen Europe's inverter industry by tapping into technological advancements for the energy system's electrification and digitalisation. Representatives presented the concept to Kerstin Jorna from the European Commission. The IPCEI targets improving technical power electronics, critical component access, grid forming abilities, cybersecurity, and digitalisation. Key IPCEI projects focus on hardware, software, and technological breakthroughs. Germany, Austria, Spain, and Italy are key players in inverter manufacturing. The Inverters Explained 2.0 also provides market data on EU inverter manufacturing capacity, market share, and job opportunities in the industry.
