European Investment Bank invests in solar, wind in South Africa

EIB and DBSA are investing €100 million each in renewable energy projects in South Africa’s private sector. DBSA's financing round of €400 million announced at COP27 is for embedded generation investment scheme. The program targets small- and medium-sized solar and onshore wind projects. The projects aim to produce 384 MW of energy capacity. DBSA CEO Boitumelo Mosako mentioned that funded projects are starting to contribute to the grid. South African President Cyril Ramaphosa stated in July 2024 that the country has more than 22,500 MW of renewable energy projects in the pipeline.
