The Faculty of Biology at the University of Belgrade issued a statement regarding Rio Tinto's environmental impact assessment studies for the Jadar lithium mining project. Dean Ljubiša Stanisavljević and a research team of 15 experts signed the statement. The faculty was hired by SGS Beograd to work on the impact report on biodiversity. The final report of the Faculty of Biology, labelled as a business secret, recommended abandoning the project to prevent negative impacts on biodiversity. The faculty engaged in field surveys and research, producing reports in Serbian and English. Cambridge-based consultants reviewed the report. The faculty emphasized the need for optimal solutions for protecting biodiversity.
