Elisa, a telecoms specialist, is deploying battery and PV systems at base towers in Finland and the Åland Islands. The systems optimize locally produced solar energy through virtual power plant (VPP) technology. Elisa's Distributed Energy System (DES) technology enables the aggregation of stored energy into a virtual power plant. The project aims to utilize batteries as backup power sources and optimize charging to reduce costs. Elisa is targeting the deployment of 15GWh of energy storage at telecoms stations to advance decarbonisation and reduce investment costs in clean energy technologies.
