Fold-out NASA satellite solar array undergoes successful test deployment

NASA and NOAA announced the successful test deployment of a five-panel solar array that will power a weather satellite called GOES-U, the final satellite in the GOES-R series. Lockheed Martin developed the 5 kW capacity solar array. The PV cells are designed to power the entire craft. NASA has a history of using solar power for spacecraft, including recent missions like the Psyche spacecraft and the Webb Space Telescope.
