France records 233 hours of negative electricity prices in H1

Negative electricity prices surged in France throughout the first half of 2024, driven by renewable energy growth, recovery of nuclear production, and low electricity demand. French grid operator RTE and solar consultancy KiloWattSol reported significant increases in negative price hours. France surpassed Germany in negative price hours for the first time. Spot market prices for electricity turn negative when production exceeds consumption, especially during summer peaks.
