UK renewables developer-operator Harmony Energy plans to build a 100-MW/200-MWh battery in France, set to create the country’s largest energy storage system. The Chevire facility will offer two hours of discharge capacity, which will be enough to supply the average needs of 170,000 homes. The battery energy storage system (BESS) will be constructed in Nantes Saint-Nazaire Harbour, on a site that housed the already retired Chevire oil, coal and gas power station. Once in operation, it will provide critical balancing services to the French electricity grid network and enable the further addition of renewable energy to replace fossil fuels.
