The Swedish Police Authority announced prosecution of eight individuals for the theft of air source and geothermal heat pumps in Sweden. The thefts occurred across multiple locations in Fyrbodal, Orust, Lidköping, Vara, Trollhättan, and Halmstad. The suspects sold stolen heat pumps, hand tools, and building materials, with a total market value of approximately SEK 4.5 million. The trial is scheduled to begin on June 7. The thefts adversely affected citizens, entrepreneurs, and insurance companies, coinciding with a period of extended heat pump delivery times. Sweden experienced a surge in heat pump demand in 2022 with high per capita ownership of heat pumps in Europe.
