Bank guarantees were provided for 28 facilities in Serbia with a total capacity of 4,000 MW for solar, wind, and hydropower projects and substations within the transmission system. Developers of 51 investments had deadlines to submit by June 24 or July 1. The regulation introduced in October 2023 requires obligatory bank guarantees of EUR 25,000 per MW of capacity to unclog the grid connection approval process. Serbia's TSO Elektromreža Srbije received requests to connect almost 20 GW of new power plants after the adoption of the Law on the Use of Renewable Energy Sources in 2021. EMS received guarantees for 28 facilities by July 1, totaling 4,000 MW. Investors have two months to sign a connection agreement with EMS after providing bank guarantees.
