By 2037, all ships on French waterways should be powered by alternative propulsion systems. 30 ships will be equipped with electric or hybrid drives for the opening ceremony on the Seine in Paris. The inland port operator Haropa Port and French water authorities are working towards decarbonising inland waterway transport in France by modernizing and building new vessels. Five million euros have been earmarked for this programme, focusing on electrifying existing diesel-powered ships and building new battery-powered ships. The goal is to make river shipping in Paris completely climate-neutral by 2037 with the development of charging infrastructure for electric ships.
