Rechargeable lithium metal batteries based on microcrack-free polymer electrolytes developed by the University of Hong Kong promise extended lifespan and enhanced safety at high temperatures. The batteries demonstrate remarkable resistance to dendrite growth, non-flammability, wide electrochemical stability window, and high cation conductivity. The presence of tethered borate anions in microcrack-free membranes accelerates Li+ cations transport and suppresses dendrite growth, enabling safe and long-cyclable energy storage devices.
