Messer Tehnogas, a major producer and exporter of technical, medicinal, and specialty gases in Serbia, is exploring covering a significant part of its electricity needs with photovoltaics to address the EU's CBAM carbon border tax. The company seeks legal mechanisms to enable consumption of its own solar power across different locations. Head of Purchasing Mirjana Jukić emphasized the importance of securing a certified renewable electricity supply. Messer Tehnogas operates various facilities in Serbia, including a specialty gases filling station, oxygen plants, and a carbon dioxide production unit. As part of its efforts to avoid CBAM costs, the company is considering installing a photovoltaic park in Niš, with plans to use the electricity in its Smederevo plant. The company stresses the significance of complying with legislation and adapting to market requirements.
