South Africa imposes 10% import tariff on solar panels

South Africa's ITAC has imposed a 10% tariff on imports of crystalline silicon photovoltaic modules and panels to protect local manufacturers. ARTsolar, a South African producer, applied for the duty increase citing market competition. ITAC aims to safeguard remaining local manufacturers and promote value chain localization. SAPVIA expresses surprise over lack of industry engagement and plans to address issues related to the duty imposition and rebate mechanism.
